the pillowman

i just finished reading 'the pillowman' by martin mcdonagh
and was amazed
and youll probably be amazed too mom
that i liked it
it was humorous
in a dark way
and the stories
although gruesome
were well written
one of my favorites was the story 'the story of the little deaf boy on the big long railroad tracks. in china'
however
i think the play would be only mildly good as a play
because it just wouldnt have the same appeal to me
i like books more than plays
so i say all this because i have added it to the book list
even though it is a play
although i warn those who read it
that it is very gruesome
and has language
but it is good

  1. I am taking a class on Irish Drama and we read McDonagh and watched one of his movies. And what you said is pretty much how I would describe all his work. It's like dark comedy. I laugh because its funny and then feel bad for laughing at the situation. But we watched "In Bruges"- it has a lot of cursing, but if you can get through that it is good. And we read the Cripple of Inishman, which is a little less good.

  2. Can't say I've ever read any of his works, but the title of "The Story of the Little Deaf Boy on the Big Long Railroad Tracks. In China" reminded me of that one kind-of awful story about our great-grandmother...
